New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) is an integrated media company, with a portfolio of market-leading newspapers, radio stations and digital platforms.  

I initially joined on a short term contract to support the production of NZME investor relations and board material.  

I subsequently took ownership for the finance business partnering of the Audio, OneRoof, and Commercial business units, oversaw NZME's group budgeting and forecasting processes, and led the implementation of the Planful financial performance management system.  

LGIM is a division of the Legal and General Insurance Group and one of the leading asset managers in the United Kingdom.  

My initial role was to co-ordinate the production of LGIM monthly, board, and external reporting for divisional and group executives.  

Subsequently I managed a team of four finance business partners in supporting back and middle office executives to ensure that they could meet their strategic business objectives whilst operating within their financial constraints.  

Aviva Investors is the institutional asset manager for Aviva Insurance Group.  

I provided financial support for the Chief Operating Officer and other Back Office business units.  I managed a team of seven including relocating five team members to Sri Lanka.  Controllership and reporting was provided by the Sri Lankan team with analysis, business partnering, and budgeting provided by the London team.   

Standard Bank is the leading South African retail bank with the International Commercial and Investment Bank (CIB) comprising of outside Africa.  

Financial support for CIB International Back Office business units through a team of ten.  I brought a number of individuals together to build a team that significantly improved accuracy, quality, and efficiency of output.  Developed relationships with business unit executives to ensure they took financially effective decisions including working through a headcount restructuring process.   

Morgan Stanley is an Investment Bank listed on the NY Stock Exchange.  

European Controller responsibilities for Manpower costs of Information Technology, Corporate Services, Corporate Services Amenities, and Human Resources with a team spread across London and Budapest.  Monthly reporting and analysis of Direct and Allocated costs to front and back office business units.  Supported IT in the establishment of their near shore office in Budapest and their Global Enterprise Data Centre organisation.  European lead for implementation of a new allocation system to support activity based costing.    

James Crisp Limited is a privately owned New Zealand business specialising in the importation, distribution, and marketing of food products. 

Financial Controller responsible for all aspects of the administration function, including accounting, technology, shipping, warehousing, distribution, reporting, cash management, foreign exchange, insurance, governance, and human resources.  Managed an administrative team of eight plus external suppliers.  

Successful review, selection, and implementation of a business application which created efficiency and a successful control environment.  Introduced B2B processes with major customers.    

Starting in the Auckland office as a graduate I worked in business advisory services (small enterprises) before moving into corporate services and undertaking a dual role working on audit and information system assurance assignments.  

EY provided an excellent grounding in core accounting tasks (financial statements and tax returns) before moving into implementing small business accounting systems, I gained an understanding of larger organisations and their control environments via the audit process, undertook application control reviews, and prepared detailed reviews of computer environments to ensure adequate controls.
